This study examines the causes of factionalism within China's Red Guard during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. Professor Rosen examines the interests of each of the factions; their constituencies and sources of support; and the issues that divided rebels and conservatives, as viewed in light of post-Mao politics.
